Book Clubs — Reading Faith Together

Our themed book clubs create safe, engaging spaces for believers to think deeply and share freely. Each season, we explore spiritual classics, theology for everyday life, and contemporary faith reflections. Guided by faculty or qualified facilitators, these gatherings encourage open dialogue in theology, spiritual formation, and ministry issues through reading reflection and conversation.

“Through the book club, I discovered that theology is not just for scholars — it’s for disciples who want to live faithfully in today’s world.”

Reading Augustine's The City of God Together

Instructor: Dr. Edwin Lee
Academic Dean and Professor of Theology at CCST Vancouver; Member of International Association of Patristic Studies (IAPS)

We cordially invite you to delve into another of Augustine’s immortal masterpieces, The City of God. In a turbulent and fallen world, Augustine uses a macroscopic historical perspective to guide us in reflecting on how God transcends worldly affairs and sovereignly governs history. Even when spiritual and worldly forces remain locked in battle and the light seems hidden, we can still learn to discern with a sensitive heart how God is working in secret to achieve ultimate victory.

Through reading and dialogue, let us explore the profound intersection of faith, history, and hope together.

Reading Dietrich Bonhoeffer's The Cost of Discipleship Together

Instructor: Dr. Andres Tang
Visiting Professor of Theology at China Graduate School of Theology

The Cost of Discipleship is no ordinary devotional book. Building upon the foundation of "Justification by Faith" championed by Martin Luther, it digs deep into the New Testament Gospels and Pauline Epistles to articulate a life and practice of "believing and obeying" and "believing and following."

This reading group will focus on Part I of The Cost of Discipleship. We will primarily use the Chinese translation, supplemented by the English edition (Discipleship). Through reading and discussion, we will explore the practical living and calling of a disciple together.
